Karikó Katalin
Visiting Professor, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
Born in Hungary in 1955 and attended school in Hungary. Graduated from the University of Szeged (Hungary) with a degree in Biochemistry.Began working at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, but moved to the United States in 1985 to pursue a career as a researcher.
Later, continued to work on mRNA research at Biontec, based in Mainz, Germany, and the technology was used in the novel coronavirus vaccine co-developed by Biontec/Pfizer. Served as Senior Vice President of Biontec until October 2022. Has received numerous prestigious scientific awards, including the Keio medical Science Prize in 2021, the Japan Prize in 2022, and the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023.
