Enjoy a Myanmar New Year festival while commanding a bird's eye view of Odaiba!
In the Buddhist countries of Southeast Asia, such as Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos, people welcome the New Year in the middle of April. New Year celebrations in those countries are lavishly held. The New Year is called " Thingyan " in Myanmar. For the New Year, not only is it celebrated at enjoyable events with music, traditional dance, and performances. There are also festivals where people go to pagodas and Buddhist temples to pray and accumulate merit.
Because the New Year is a time to return home, Myanma people living overseas return to their home country to see their families again and attend functions. Due to various circumstances, some Myanma people cannot return to their home country. However, they also hold New Year festivals overseas to carry on their traditions. The Myanmar community living in Japan has also held New Year festivals every year since 1989. This year, the festival will have a history of being held once a year for 33 years, not including the COVID-19 pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
