Scientist Quest Special Edition: What Will Happen? The Arctic Ocean, Living Things, and Us<Venue: Miraikan>

  • 2018-01-08 ~ 2018-01-08

In recent years, sea ice has been melting at an alarming rate. The effects of this change in environment caused by global warming are said to be remarkable.

“Why is sea ice melting? What will happen if it completely melts?”

In order to answer these questions, many researchers are stepping up, visiting the arctic and conducting serious research.

“What is currently happening in the arctic?” Throughout the day, three researchers who are engaged in progressive, cutting-edge research will explain their findings, and give us a chance to think about our relationship with the arctic.

In addition we will be displaying a model of the research vessel “Mirai”, which is currently being used for observing the Arctic Ocean, as well as real samples of sea ice, and example specimens of arctic creatures. We hope you enjoy the talks.
